Day 35
Tonite began the Mississippi Valley Invitational Tournament. While Mississippi Valley Christian school is our arch-rival, we started out the tourney playing Pana. Pana is our newest rival. In VB, we kicked their butts. In BB, they kicked ours. Literally. They are a very aggressive, in your face but in a Christian kind of way (like that's possible???) I'm sure they thought they'd walk all over us but, at the end of the first half, we were only down by one.
During the 3rd quarter, they pulled away and, at one point, led by more than 10. As the fourth quarter wound down, we pulled closer & with less than a minute left, we were only down by one point. Pana played the clock & just passed the ball around, never trying to shoot, just wanting to run time out. I finally understood the ploy of fouling the other team when this happens. We'd foul, they'd inbound & pass the ball but not shoot, we'd foul and it would repeat.
Finally, we go to the point that they had to shoot free throws once we'd foul. The guy missed, we got the ball, drove it down the court & we SCORED!!!! We are now leading by 1 point w/less than 8 seconds to go. It appears the clock runs out & we won!!! We're screaming & yelling & jumping up and down when the other team says they called time out! It is determined & they put 2 seconds on the clock. Yikes, that's enough time for them to maybe get a shot off. But wait, the officials are mistaken. It's .2 seconds. They inbound, the clock runs out & WE WIN THE GAME!!!! You have never seen 8 boys so excited. The rest of the tourney is going to be tough but, at least we beat Pana!!!!
Day 34
Sometimes, you just need grease & salt. I worked today. I'm filling in while the kids' lunch lady is recovering from shoulder surgery. It may be for a couple weeks, maybe a couple months. But, i was tired, I needed a drink (42oz coke for $1.19) and, while I was waiting in the drive thru, the fries "spoke" to me. Yum!!

Day 29
This pic comes courtesy of Nick. We went to Taco Bell for dinner tonite. But, Nick wanted Mickey Ds. So we drove thru, picked him up a dollar double cheese burger & took it to TB and he got tacos there too. In looking at the McDs bag, I questioned WHY there was a pig (mad of potatoes???) on the bag. Nick suggested it for pic of the day. Viola', POD.
Day 27
No, this is NOT the pic from Monday. This is a "new" dusting of snow from our flurries last night. They were really pretty & I would have SWORN we were going to get more than this. Oh well. Scott's in Witchita & they are predicting 8" overnight. This storm is going to miss us & go south, probably :(
Day 26
Something we haven't seen in WEEKS. Literally!! We have had rain or overcast skies since our "big" snowstorm 2 weeks ago. Today the sun actually rose & shone for alot of the day. More snow flurries predicted for tomorrow. Hoping for inches, not a dusting!!!
Day 24
Day 23
"Scott's" Hibiscus blooms in the dead of winter w/NO leaves on the plant. It looks funny, w/o any leaves. I say it's Scott's 'cause he's the one who picked it out 2 years ago. I told him this year, HE has to take care of it if he wants to keep it for the summer. It's in his office and he's responsible for remembering to water it. AND keeping Jack out of it!!

January 22
It's still really damp & more rain is expected tomorrow. But, my van is FILTHY. I can't close the doors or the hatch w/o getting my hands so dirty. We're driving to Pana, 2 hours away, for a basketball game tonite and I just can't face driving a dirty van a second longer. I figure, as it only cost $3, it's worth it, even if it's only clean for a couple of hours!
January 21
More rain, more driving, more drips. (this was taken while stopped, much safer. LOL Notice the graveyard reflected in the mirror? Creepy!)

Day 18, Week 3, Month 1
I saw this at Target before Thanksgiving. I wanted it but said I'd wait & see if it was still available after Christmas (I like it but LOVE a bargin, LOL). I was going w/my girlfriends the day after C'mas & told Becca specifically to buy this if it was available. I told Scott but knew he wouldn't listen.
Christmas morning came & I had one gift that I had NO CLUE what it was. It was too heavy to be clothes. I opened it and SURPRISE, it was the snowmen. LOVE THEM!!!! Scott had gone 2 days before T'giving and bought it while I was having a crown put on a tooth. How Sweet!!

Day 16, Week 3, Month 1
While my dad was here, we went out to my Brother's house. Looks more & more like a house every time we visit. MUDDY today but not as cold. You can really get a sense of what it's going to be like.
Here's some more artistic shots. The angles of the wood really "spoke" to me. That's my nephew Andrew ON THE ROOF, looking down. I was getting creeped out by the lack of wallboard & banisters, he's climbing all over like a monkey!
Day 15, Week 3, Month 1
Took Scott's mom shopping today. Went to the bank, the grocery store, the PO and the mall. While waiting for Scott to come back from Radio Shack (with a battery from his mom's clock) I too this snap of the trees & their furry little buds. Pretty!
Day 14, Week 2, Month 1
(This whole day/week/month thing is gonna get old, isn't it??)
Killing time at Walmart, waiting for Nick to get back from his basketball tournament (we were asked, by Nick, NOT to go. The boy wants his independence!) I thought these flowers looked pretty!!!
Day 13, Week 2, Month 1
(edited to add: dad came up & replaced the brakes, a belt & power steering fluid for $75 in parts & we gave him $200 and STILL came out ahead!!!)
Day 12, Week 2, Month 1
Day 11, Week 2, Month 1
Yesterday was the coldest day in 10 years. But someone, for some reason, decided they had to take their boat out. Apparently, the boat/trailer didn't want to go out & it was left on the side of the road. Poor boat! (The boat was gone by the time I went to pick the kids up after school.)
Day 10, Week 2, Month 1
Sorry to take so many pics of Jack. He's such a pain sometimes when he's awake & looks like such an angel when he's asleep I just can't resist taking a snap of him taking a nap. LOL

Day 9, Week 2, Month 1
Day 8, Week 2, Month 1
I was suprised at how THICK this mattress was. It's easily a full 6" thicker than his previous. Very comfy. He said he slept great in it. Now, Becca has to find a mattress SHE likes....
Day 7, Week 1, Month 1
Day 6, Week 1, Month 1
This is one of the 4 new ornaments we got this year. I need to dig out the pics of the other new ornies to add them here sometime too.
And, about 7:30, THIS is what happened. SNOW!!! School has been cancelled for tomorrow!! LOVE IT!!!!
Day 5, Week 1, Month 1
The trees are coming down. The downstairs tree is first. All the ornaments except those that plug into the lights are down. Makes me very sad. At least, the upstairs tree is still up & pretty!
Day 4, Week 1, Month 1
Day 3, Week 1, Month 1
Mom's Mac & Cheese. I always have made mac & cheese Scott's family's way: Velveeta, scroodles & butter. I grew up w/white sauce & bread crumbs but Scott doesn't like "wet" mac & cheese.
So, we went to Mom's for T'giving & I told her she MUST make her M&C. Everyone, Scott included, LOVED it. Becca begged me to make g'ma's recipe & Scott agreed. So, this is my first attempt. It was a little too dry (needed more milk in the white sauce!) but it was pretty good. Even better leftover!
(posting this a week later makes me hungry for it all over again!!!)Day 2, Week 1, Month 1
Day 1, Week 1, Month 1
This is my LEAST favorite time of the year. I HATE taking down all the Christmas stuff!!! Not only am I depressed 'cause all the pretty-pretties are gone but it's always such a hassle to put everything back in the tubs. It usually takes me a week 'cause I'm not real motivated to do it. The knick-knacks come down first, the trees are last.
